My Training

Week 2 Of The Hybrid Block

Welcome to week 2 of my current block.  These Sunday articles are a wee bit of a training diary if you want to follow along with what I’m doing & what’s going on in my world.

There’s current half an eye on autumn marathons with half an eye on getting a wee bit faster over the 10km & 1/2 marathon distance (as ultimately this will make marathon pace feel much easier).

Before Northallerton 10km I had committed to twice weekly strength & conditioning sessions. These seem have to not reinstated into my schedule 😤 I’m writing this to hold myself accountable.  One of my biggest weaknesses is S&C and it’s always the thing I’m quick to forget about and neglect.  I even convince myself I don’t really like it but that’s not true 🙄.  So, DO call me out if there’s no strength & conditioning on next week’s training round up!

So, here’s how the week rolled;

Monday

Monday is speed day.  On the cards this week was a 1.5 mile warm up, 12 minutes @ 7:50-8;00 min mile pace, 8 x 1 min on, 1 min off @ 6;50-7;10 minute mile pace & 12 minutes back at 7:50-8;00 min mile pace.  All the 1 minutes went well and I was just outside of the pace on the 12 minutes (8;01 & 8;05 respectively).  Overall happy with that one.

Tuesday

5.5 mile easy run on the trails.  Just a nice wee trot out.

Wednesday

Longrun workout day!

  • 1.5 mile warmup
  • 2 miles @ Marathon Pace
  • 1 mile @ half marathon pace
  • 1/2 mile @ 10 mile pace
  • 1/2 mile @ 10k pace
  • 1/2 mile @ 10 mile pace
  • 1 mile @ half marathon pace
  • 2 miles @ marathon pace
  • cool down

A great session, proud of hitting the paces.  It was actually nice & sunny out there, that DEFFO made me smile!

Thursday

Rest day! 😍 Well, I didn’t run but the kids certainly made the day a wee bit more eventful than I expected it to be including 2 trips to school and a visit to x-ray 🙄😂

Friday

A blend of trails & roads, nice & easy pace.

Saturday

Warm up & then parkrun as a tempo session.  Not an all out effort today but a good, quick leg turn over.  It felt comfortable.  Happy that I can run a parkrun comfortably at that pace now.  #progress!

We also headed out on our bikes in the afternoon sunshine for 9.5miles

Sunday

An easy 6.23 miles to round off the week.

I’m mindful that the majority of my harder efforts hit the beginning of the week but it seems to work right now.

I have some ideas for next week’s articles BUT if there’s anything particular you’d like me to cover then don’t hesitate to shout up in the comments…

Here’s to the incoming week 😀
