The Letter I’d Write To The Me Of 5 Years Ago

I was just thinking about what I’d tell the version of me from 5 years ago, what does future me thinks past me needs to hear 🤔 So I decided to write it here 🙌🏼

Right girl, listen up!

There’s definitely some things you need to know.  Some of these things you already know but you don’t want to give them any airspace right now and some of these things you’ll come to know real soon!

1️⃣  you are NOT meant to feel permanently exhausted.  Yeah, you’ve got 2 kids to run around after, you’ve family stuff, house stuff, life stuff, you run a business, you are busy BUT you’re not meant to drag your ass through the day.  Stop seeing it as your lot in life because you’ve got a stack going on.  It’s not “just the way it is” and there IS something you can do about it.

2️⃣  You putting yourself at the bottom of the list of priorities not only impacts you but impacts EVERYONE around you.  You can’t be the biggest & brightest version of yourself from a place of self neglect.  It’s not big & clever, it’s not stoic, it’s not taking one for the team, it’s not even prioritising others (because they aren’t getting even a fraction of the sparkliest you).

3️⃣  Stop using your kids as an excuse and justifying it with the title of mum guilt.  The kids don’t mind (and usually don’t notice) if you do stuff for yourself, it makes you a better role model to do stuff that makes you feel healither and well and it creates positive impacts on them in lots of ways.  You wouldn’t want your kids to look after themselves the way you’re looking after you.

4️⃣  The same with your work ⬆️  stop using work guilt as an excuse.  Your business will still run without you being sat at your desk every hour of the day PLUS if you spend 8 hours sleeping and 8 hours working WTAF are you doing with the other 8 hours?!?

5️⃣  You will gain stacks more than you lose (and you’ll lose 6 & 1/2 stone)

6️⃣  YES, you can run a marathon (and you’ll not cross the finish line saying “never again” but instead will know you can do better and be asking “when’s the next one.”).

7️⃣  You will be able to get off the sofa without struggling (and get to your bedroom without being out of puff).

8️⃣  It won’t be hard once you decide you’re full ass in.  Half ass in gets half ass outcomes.

9️⃣  Your lifestyle will change and every single bit of that change will be positive.

🔟  You’ll be proud of yourself, proud of starting, proud for keeping going and proud of just how resilient you are.

And here’s the thing, there’s an incoming pandemic, you’re going to experience a whole world of crazy for a couple of years, everything is going to be thrown up in the air and everyone will wonder where it’s going to land.  You’ll ride the wave BUT you’ll learn lots, including that we certainly have to focus on our controllables.

You’ll make me proud 😉

I’m not sure if I needed to write that for me today or whether you needed to readed but, either way, it’s today’s article 😀
