I entered Langdale 1/2 because hubby was going to run the full. I didn’t enter at the same time as him as it was billed as the toughest marathon in the UK and that slightly daunted me about the 1/2 at that stage. I wasn’t up to a super toughie when he entered.
As the event got closer I had become more confident in my fitness and abilities. So I popped in my entry. My rational was that I was going to be going over to support him anyway so might as well add in a cheeky 1/2 whilst I was there.
The week leading up to the event I had a stonking cold.
As we drove over I was busy blowing my nose and feeling the aches.
I was wrestling with the idea of not starting.
I don’t think I’ve even DNSed.
I decided that I’d give it a go. I would run to heart rate, I’d walk any of the major hills and I’d stop and head back after a couple of miles if I needed to.
I LOVED it. Running to heart rate was interesting and something I’d never done before. I was to keep the effort in the right place based on my heart rate.
The scenery was spectacular.
Just after the first mile marker was the first major climb. I set off and ran as much as I could and then worked it off into a walk.
The downhills I left gravity do her thing.
I took in all the sights.
I stopped for a wee at the portaloos.
This event is so well organised and the marshalling was incredible (including active traffic management on the open roads).
The race bling was fab too.
For me it was a race to enjoy and savour.
Would I do it again? Hell yeah!
