The first outing of a new Run Through event in the north-east the Jarrow 10km looked like it was going to be a goodie.
Run Through do events well! They are well organized and always a bobby dazzler of a medal and fantastic goodies at the end. I entered Jarrow 10km a little while ago with the intention that it was going to be something that I worked towards after my base building phase. It appeared to be a flat & fast course and I thought that it would be the perfect run just as we entered Autumn. Well, that didn’t quite turn out as planned. The fitness wasn’t incoming and I entered race day with a wee bit of a groin/hip niggle.
An early start run with a 9am start time, we headed up to Jarrow in good time. I think that was the right decision as we seemed to be the one of the last cars that were able to park up in the designated parking area and therefore didn’t get involved in any bun fights for parking.
There was plenty of toilet facilities at the start, room to warm up and the stands within Jarrow stadium was available if you fancied a sit down or if you had supporters with you.
The race started in Monkton Stadium in Jarrow and we took approximately 300 meters of the track before heading out onto the course. The course was a double out and back with a little loop round at one end and was indeed extremely flat.
Whilst a double out and back does sound ridiculously boring that wasn’t actually the case. Being able to see the battle at the front end of the field as well as those behind and being able to see those who you’d travelled with during their race meant that the course actually didn’t become tedious.
You finished off with another 300 meters of the track to take the finish line, get the fabulous bling and a bag full of goodies.
The course was in fact flat and I do want to do this race again as I think that it’s actually a PB course so I’d like to be able to do it justice.
A point to note is that this years course was in fact 6.3 miles and measured long (this wasn’t just on my Garmin, it was feedback from multiple people).
It is a ~ would recommend ~ one though and I’ll be looking to get it booked in again.
