Getting Started With Ultra Running

In September 2019 I had gained a whole stack of confidence after entering the marathon, completing 2 1/2 marathons and lost a stack of weight I clicked on a website 😱and I pressed the button to enter an event.

A 7 hour event 😱

Surely it’d be a fab way to just have a stack of fun, dip my toe into ultra running and do it in a safe enviroment (as it’s a lapped course and doesn’t require navigation or having to move from check point to check point). As it’s got closer it has made my bum nip a little bit and I’m writing this just a few days out from the event.

Apparently we are forecast a storm on the day too.

Here’s what I have to make sure I remember on Sunday;

👉 this is NOT an A Race

👉 this is NOT at any cost

👉 I MUST NOT get injured

👉 I need to try to not fall over

👉 this IS a training run

👉 the focus is completing the long run for the week and then settling down to a walk

👉 it’s an opportunity to practice nutrition

👉 it’s potentially a stepping stone to ultra running

Now, whilst I say I’m using this as my long run for the week I’ve also got half an eye on the “ultra” pin being added to my medal. This is 9 + laps of the course.

The intention is 8 laps ran (marathon distance) and then moving down to a walk and fuelling (although I will fuel through the marathon distance too so that my body gets a different experience of what will become race day nutrition.

I’ve started a list and I have started a pile of what I’m going to take with me (which I’ll share when it’s a completely pile) and get my kit together.

I’ll also share the lessons I’ve learned along the way and on the day.

Consider this a reserved rally cry – let’s do this!!!
