You’ve gotta love ❤️ - after a long day, you pull on your trainers 👟, as you set off your Garmin has you in the green (yup you’re productive ✔️), you make the effort, you do the training, you run over 4 miles, you get home and all Garmin’s arsey response can muster is ORANGE ~ UNPRODUCTIVE 🖕🏻

Don't believe everything you tell yourself.

As we review the year it's easy to miss so much of it out. My dialogue to myself was that I had hardly raced this year - granted I haven't done any epic races, ultras or marathons for the first time in a lot of years but I've not not raced. I've ran the Quayside 5km with @runthroughnorth , @the_blaydon_race , The Ali Brownlee 5km with @jtrunforall & @mcrhalf - so I have ran a few with a @muddyroads7 & @darlington_trail or two sprinkled in there too.

Yeah I've not had a prolific racing year, yeah the comeback has taken STACKS longer than I thought but there's been some highlights.

PLUS I've kept up with posting one of these at the beginning of each month for a whole year. It doesn't get much engagement, people don't get involved in them but the plan was to do it for me to have a little one liner for the month. In fact I've now started to implement a word of the week in my training diary to keep me focused on the purpose and plan for the week and I have to say I'm really loving it.

When J can’t be far from the car as he’s on call then loops 🔁 is a valid option.

Today was 4 x 800/400 alternating, each off 200 meters recovery which I took as a 100m walk and 100m jog. Working at my previous HMP & 10km pace which is probably 10km and 5km pace just now but we will continue to put in the graft to get back to where I was 💪💪

Great to see the results coming through from Valencia this morning 🌅 & the local results at the @runthroughnorth event at Croft Circuit, some stunning 🤩 PBs 🤩🤩🤩

BUT this is for the long game. It’s taken me ages to come through this injury (14 months and I’m not even close to where I was).

I have to keep showing up, keep doing the work, keep consistent, keep taking steps and collecting bricks 🧱 to build the wall.

My choice of shoe 👟 for this mornings run was easy! It was icy ❄️ & frosty when I walked the dog so I went for @pumarunning because Puma Grip is simply epic 🙌

If I were to have to write a tagline for it - not a slip or a slide + confidence in every stride.

I was just bobbing along and the glistening pavements where just pretty rather than being worried I’d take a skid!

FOR FULL TRANSPARENCY- gifted shoes, not for the purposes of review and with no expectation of feedback for them. Gifted or not I’d pick these ones up everytime the conditions outside require a little extra grip (and I have less grippy trail shoes 🫣)

I think I’ve just thawed out from my morning run. If I’d just headed over to Middleton St George I wouldn’t have had to negotiate snow/slush/wet and miserableness 😂😂

Thank you @ayclifferunningclub for letting us bob along to Track Tuesday on a Thursday. 10 x 300m off 100m on the cards tonight.

Enjoyed it in a type 2 fun kinda way.

Felt strong. 💪 paces off what I did last time by about 10 secs on the min mile pace but it was so so cold 🥶
